Videx System Simplifies Braehead Access Control - 28/04/2004
Simple to install and operate audio entrance control equipment from Videx Security has been employed by a leading security company in Scotland to address long term problems experienced at Glasgow's largest retail centre.
The Braehead Shopping Centre encompasses its own network of access roads and service yards enabling deliveries to all of its many stores; with several hundred vehicle journeys being completed virtually every day of the year. The original video monitoring and access control system, offering remote control of half a dozen barriers, had proved to be over complicated, unreliable and even susceptible to the Scottish climate.
Now, however, access control has been made far more user friendly for both drivers and security staff, with no maintenance problems being reported after the installation of Videx equipment - at a fraction of the cost compared to some alternatives being considered.
The Contract Manager on the project for Scotshield Fire and Security, Jim McDougal, comments: "The footprint of the Braehead Shopping Centre in Glasgow is self contained with barriers on service yards and access roads within the complex. There were all sorts of problems with the old system including having no audio link when it was raining.
Scotshield was asked to price and put forward a proposal based on Videx's established VR door panels and Sentry 1 audio system due to their experience of the equipment and relationship with the manufacturer. This was a complex installation involving half a dozen barrier points to be linked to the main security control room with new cable runs in excess of 1500 metres. In the control room a loud speaker has been replaced by one of Videx's handsets which makes for a much better working environment.
"Aside from the price and the reliable performance of the Videx equipment, the fact that the old panels, requiring a number to be keyed in, have been replaced by a single button for drivers to summon attention, has made it far more user friendly," says Jim. "Overall Videx provided the best option while the technical back up was excellent when we hit a problem with the installation."
